Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative Names 2025 Summer Interns

Fourteen Harvard College students set to work in city halls across the country this summer
Cambridge, Massachusetts (May 20, 2025)—The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, in partnership with the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School, welcomed the newest cohort of 2025 Bloomberg Harvard Summer Interns today.
The Initiative—a program of the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University—equips mayors and senior city officials to tackle complex challenges in their cities and improve the quality of life of their residents. By engaging Harvard students in research and field work, the Initiative supports current city leaders while investing in future generations.
After receiving multiple competitive applications, the Initiative placed 14 Harvard College undergraduate students in cities across the country, the largest cohort of summer interns to date. They will work alongside current Bloomberg Harvard City Hall Fellows, Harvard graduates who are spending two years working in U.S. city halls helping to build local government capacity and making significant contributions to cities’ most pressing challenges.
Interns will gain public sector experience and contribute to key projects like analyzing data to track carbon reduction goals, applying analytics to improve service delivery and resident outcomes, and partnering with developers and residents to enhance green space.

“We’re very pleased to see that interest in this opportunity continues to grow,” said Pascha McTyson, Director of Student Engagement at the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative.
“We’re truly building a pathway for the next generation of city leaders to follow and explore their passion for public service. By placing undergraduates in cities where Bloomberg Harvard City Hall Fellows are currently doing meaningful work, I think we’ve found a sweet spot that connects emerging talent with Harvard alumni all working on real-word challenges. The interns can see what pursuing a career in city leadership looks like in real time.”
The students in the 2025 cohort hold a variety of Harvard College concentrations, including government, social studies, history, applied math, statistics, computer science, economics, sociology and data analytics, pre-law, and English.
