Maya Uppaluru Mechenbier is a product counsel and policy expert in health care, digital innovation, and social safety net programs. She is currently leading the Family Benefits Lab at Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact & Innovation, which focuses on implementing human-centered design to support young mothers in accessing health services, achieving their educational goals, and pursuing meaningful career pathways.
Prior to joining Georgetown, Maya was a project lead at the U.S. Digital Service (USDS) in the White House, where she launched the “Birth of a Child” Life Experience portfolio of projects, focusing on improving service delivery to low-income mothers and their families. Maya also led the lived experience research with mothers as part of the National Strategy to Improve Maternal Mental Health in 2024 and contributed to data and technology components of the White House Blueprint for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis in 2022. Maya was previously a counsel with Crowell & Moring’s Digital Health practice, where she provided legal and regulatory advice to a range of health care clients, including health plans, hospitals and health care providers, and medical device and health technology companies.
Maya holds a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of California, Irvine. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband and two daughters.
