Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative Launches Case Collection with The Case Centre
Cambridge, Massachusetts (September 12, 2025)—The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative teaching case collection is now available through The Case Centre, the world’s largest repository of management teaching materials.
The Initiative’s free case collection is designed to inspire innovative, collaborative problem-solving by bringing real-world urban challenges into the classroom. Featuring diverse protagonists from around the globe, the cases help mayors, city leaders, and students explore and confront complex issues facing cities today.
“We’re delighted to make our cases and other teaching materials freely available through The Case Centre,” said David W. Giles, Program Director of Curriculum Development and Editorial Support at the Initiative.
“Doing so allows us to reach a much broader global community of educators, students, and city leaders. We hope these materials spark innovation and collaboration in classrooms and city halls alike, helping leaders tackle their toughest challenges with fresh ideas and proven practices.”

Since 2017, the Initiative’s research, teaching, and applied work has focused on capabilities for problem-oriented governance in cities. These include organizational practices as well as managerial and leadership skills, which form the foundation of its executive education programs. These programs have served hundreds of mayors and thousands of senior officials around the world, equipping them with the skills to collaborate across sectors, use data and evidence effectively, develop and implement innovations, and lead strategically.
The Initiative’s case collection covers a wide range of disciplines—organizational behavior, public management, business, ethics, data science, political science, democratic theory, social psychology, economics, decision science, and governance—making the materials well-suited for graduate-level teaching across multiple fields. Many of the cases are supported by companion resources such as educator and practitioner guides, slide decks, epilogues, and videos. The Initiative also offers simulations, toolkits, and asynchronous digital learning modules to enrich the learning experience.
Making these cases more widely available through The Case Centre marks a significant step in the Initiative’s mission to strengthen city leadership worldwide. The Case Centre, an independent nonprofit dedicated to advancing the case method, holds and distributes the world’s largest and most diverse collection of cases, articles, and other teaching materials. By joining this platform, the Initiative’s materials will reach a broader community of educators, students, and practitioners.
