Research summary

City leaders have an opportunity to make recovery services more accessible for parents with substance use disorders when they design around the realities of family life. This paper shows how family-friendly service design—especially through child care, transportation, trust-building, and cross-boundary coordination—can reduce barriers to treatment, strengthen parent and child outcomes, and help cities turn fragmented systems into supportive pathways for recovery.
